This year was the eighth summer opening in Hlíðarfjall, where visitors could use Fjarkinn, our lower chairlift, to get up the mountain and enjoy biking or hiking in the area. A lot of work went into the bike park this summer, with many new features added alongside maintenance of older trails. Opening hours were changed from previous years — this year we were open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with three special weekends offering extended opening from Thursday to Sunday. This new schedule seemed to work very well, and most days were well attended. In total, there were 32 opening days, and the number of visitors exceeded 1,500, making this our third-best summer ever and more than double compared to last year.
Alongside the summer opening, extensive work has been carried out on the mountain. Over half a kilometer of new snow fences has already been installed, along with upgrades to older fences throughout the area. Significant maintenance has also been done on all lifts and equipment. Meanwhile, progress continues on our new workshop building, and we are counting down the days until we can finally move in. Ahead lies plenty of work before the snow starts to fall: continuing snow fence construction, upgrading the snowmaking system, renewing the lighting, and of course, moving into the new facilities when the time comes. So, as always, this autumn will be anything but idle.
We would like to thank everyone who visited the mountain this summer and, of course, we look forward to welcoming you again this winter :)
