This past Saturday marked the formal closing of the mountain for this winter, as the final day of the “Andrésar Andarleikarnir” took place.
It’s safe to say that this winter was a difficult one for us, with little snow and challenging weather. We weren’t able to open until January 4th, which is quite late for our taste, but snowmaking played a key role, never before have we produced snow for as many days in Hlíðarfjall as this year. Throughout the winter, we had several bad warm spells, which called for all kinds of new snow-saving strategies to keep the area open. That’s when our SnowSat snow measurement system in the groomers really proved itself.
But there were also great days when everyone beamed with joy on the mountain, and the final weeks were absolutely fantastic. Easter was a total hit, with a perfectly timed snow delivery and great weather. The final highlight was, of course, the “Andrésar Andarleikarnir”, and as always, it was wonderful to see all the amazing kids at the mountain, another record participation with around 930 competitors.
Despite the difficult conditions, we managed 85 opening days at the ski area, plus a few extra training days, and almost 63.000 guests.
We trust the weather gods will be kinder to us next winter and look forward to welcoming you all to Hlíðarfjall for the 2025/2026 season.
